Freedom Club TimeBank was officially launched on the 16 September 2006 by David Howarth MP.
On the day, TimeBank members completed a group exchange to improve a wildlife area at the Fields Early Years Centre on Galfrid Road. Led by Robert Good, local wildlife expert, eight members got to work clearing the overgrown area to make it more accessible to both wildlife and children at the school.
Other members donated time to the TimeBank by baking bread and cakes, and growing tomatoes, cucumbers and beetroot for the buffet. Still others helped by giving lifts to less mobile members from all over Cambridge.
Everyone who came along will now be able to use this time to exchange with other members.
To keep the party going there was Star Radio [http://www.star107.co.uk/]'s Black Pig bouncy castle for the children, and Arco Iris, Cambridge's community Samba band [http://www.arcoiris.org.uk/], to create a real carnival atmosphere.
Everybody had a great time. It was also a great opportunity for new and existing members to meet and arrange future exchanges.
David Boffey, the TimeBank's Time Broker, said: "It was great to see everyone lend a hand and donate time to make the day a real success - thank you. We've already started to arrange our next event - a reiki evening to relax us after all the energetic gardening!".
